CHRIS BARNES

Chris Barnes is one of our most-requested acts at the Joke Joint Comedy Club!  In addition to his fantastic material, his quick with allows him to react to every situation!

When he was six years old, Chris Barnes already knew he wanted to be a stand-up comedian. In 1980, he made his first appearance on stage at Sardino's, a local night club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ever since then, this native Milwaukeean has been making his mark on the comedy scene throughout the Midwest, the South, and the East Coast with his storming style of humor.

Barnes can be best described as a high-energy comic that will take an audience and keep them laughing as he interprets his experiences of life. Barnes is also the man of many faces; his personality and facial expressions will bring an audience to life. In 1993 Barnes was the Young Artist Grant winner awarded by the Performing Arts Center (PAC) in Milwaukee.

Barnes has worked and laughed with such people as John Mendoza, JJ Jimmy Walker, Andrew Dice Clay, Sinbad, Bill Cosby, and many others.

TIM NORTHERN

"I love that fact that he assumes his audience has a brain!"
                   -Noted intellectual Ben Stein

And it's exactly the response he's hoping for each and every time he takes the stage. "That's what I'm striving for. I provide you with two-thirds of the joke, and you provide the other third. It's like 'do-it-yourself  comedy."

That do-it-yourself approach is paying off for the Nashville native, whose influences are a veritable Who's Who of comic genius. "George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Steven Wright - I like all of 'em.  Once Tim takes control of the mike, he relies on much the same type of material that those classic comedians used to land in the national spotlight - plain and simple, Tim Northern is a word man.

"Love words. Love 'em!   Tim says. His enthusiasm for words and language results in what can aptly be described as humor for the thinking person, a unique combination of intellect and fun-filled observation. And yet, it's mainstream humor that everyone understands. Simply put, Tim Northern is punster of the highest caliber.

John DeBoer
- N 1. Comedian. 2. One who has made mistakes and is determined to repeat the fun ones
.

It has been said, there are only two ways you can go in life after making a mistake. Learn from it and move on or don’t learn from it and and stay where you are. John DeBoer has chosen a third route: Write a joke about it and share it with the masses. His nerve-hitting show flows from the devious side of childhood to the never-ending pressures of our times. His twisted observations of life, the world around him, and particularly how he has managed to screw it up, have earned John a reputation as one of the most consistently strong acts wherever he goes. Watching John on stage takes the audience on a roller coaster of seeing their own blunders or faux pas’, and then being compelled to laugh at them. Falling somewhere between “The Next John DeBoer of Comedy”, and “the best you can do on short notice”, he takes us on a ride we’ve all been on, yet somehow failed to see the humor in the first time through.

Having appeared at comedy clubs, colleges, three federal penitentiaries, the Daytona 500 Experience, as well as on Comedy Central, XM-Sirius Satellite Radio, and in national TV commercials, with a brief (very brief, yet heartwarming) shot on Last Comic Standing, John DeBoer might be the funniest comedian you never heard of.

DARRYL LENOX

Capitalizing on his keen sense of observation and uncanny knack for energizing an audience, Darryl tours the globe and entertains at world-renowned comedy festivals like HBO’s Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and Montreal’s Just For Laughs.

Lenox has built up an impressive list of accomplishments, including appearances on A&E’s Evening at the Improv, Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, and Jamie Foxx’s Laffa Pallooza. He has garnered many awards, including 1st Place in Seattle’s Comedy Competition.

Stagetime Magazine named his CD, Blind Ambition, “one of the Top 5 Comedy Albums of 2012,” joining Louis CK, Reggie Watts, Tig Notaro, and the late Patrice O’Neal.  Along with the album release on Stand Up! Records, 2012 also saw the release of his hour-long standup special of the same name on Starz. This marked the first feature comedy special to appear on the network.

The title of the CD, Blind Ambition, is fitting, as anyone who has experienced Lenox’s insightful comedy knows that he hasn’t let his visual impairment stand in the way of his becoming one of the most popular comedians in the country.  The content goes deep, drawing on a risky eye surgery that ultimately led him to the role of Executive Producer of his own standup special. “The risk we had to take to do my major eye surgery - the one that could have left me totally blind - it propelled me to take the risk on Blind Ambition,” Lenox explains.  “The doctor that performed the surgery is my hero - it was incredibly inspiring. I knew after that experience that my days of waiting on people were over.”

Lenox compares his show to a roller-coaster ride - full of ups and downs, tension and release. Living with a visual impairment has refined his perspective, allowing him to cut through audience preconceptions, discard self-pity, and deliver pitch-perfect repartee that leave audiences spellbound and sore from laughter. People are clearly getting it and clamoring for more, and the reviewers are eagerly spreading the word:

Comedy reviewer Chris Milea took note of that very thing in a review of Blind Ambition, writing, “While introspection-inducing big picture stuff is certainly brought, it must be clear: Lenox is so remarkable in transition and planning that this set is loaded with jokes!”

Critic Ed Placencia recently reviewed Blind Ambition and wrote, “In a world of Michael Bay-style stand-up comics who rely on explosions and CGI, it’s nice to find a Woody Allen who is more concerned with composition and character.”

Darryl grew up in Las Vegas and lived in Seattle, Los Angeles and Vancouver, Canada, for several years before making New York City his permanent home.  He is no stranger to comedy, having toured the US and Canada for over 15 years headlining comedy clubs, but his latest work is suddenly seeing a massive amount of response and exposure from mainstream media who are just now discovering Lenox and his unique approach to comedy.

When Darryl talks about his influences, it is a diverse and somewhat unexpected list.  Sure there’s the comedy of greats like Richard Pryor and Redd Fox, but he is also quick to point out that he embraces multiple art forms when preparing his sets and perfecting his craft.

Prior to his debut on Starz, Darryl has been seen on A&E’s “Evening at the Improv,” BET’s “Comic View,” “Best of BET’s Comic View Special,” “Best of Just for Laugh’s Comedy Festival New Year’s Eve Special,” Comedy Central’s “Jamie Foxx’s Laffa Polooza,” and Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham.” He has performed at numerous comedy festivals including Montreal’s JFL, HBO Comedy Arts Festival, Boston Comedy Festival, Chicago Festival, Vancouver Comedy Festival, and he’s received such notable titles as Winner of Seattle Comedy Competition and Winner of Best New Play at Vancouver Fringe Festival.

With his recent success, Darryl’s popularity has seen a meteoric rise both north and south of the 49th Parallel, and Darryl Lenox doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. He has several comedy-related projects in the works, a full touring schedule, and more ambition than ever. “I don’t think I’m anywhere near my capabilities.  There is so much I want to do.  I’ve been at this for a long time, but in many ways, I feel like I’m just getting started.”
